A user from Microsoft forums posted that he was trying to get RDS set up on server 2016. When he went to Server Manager and clicked on Remote Desktop Services > Overview, then he got the message "There are no RD Connection Broker servers in the server pool”. He asked for help to fix the issue.

From the user above and the picture shown, we may find that it's kind of usual to run into various problems when using the RDP feature, such as RDP not working after reboot or the error shown above. When the issue above happens, we have to add the RD Connection Broker server to the deployment. Next, the ways to add the RD Connection Broker server will be introduced.

How to add RD Connection Broker server?

To fix "There are no RD connection broker servers in the server pool" 2016, the way to add or install the Remote Desktop Services Roles is shown in the following steps. Read after me and take it into practice.

Step 1. On the Windows taskbar, click the Server Manager button on the start screen, and then click Server Manager.

Step 2. Locate on All Servers and add Servers.

Step 3. Select Add Roles & Features and you can see “Before you begin”, click on Next.

Step 4. Choose installation type “Remote Desktop Services installation”. Click on “Next”.

Step 5. Now we come to Deployment Type, select “Standard deployment”, and click on “Next”.

Step 6. For Deployment Scenario, choose Session-based desktop deployment.

Step 8. Specify “RD Connection Broker” “RD Web Access” “RD Session Host” and select a server in turn.

Step 9. Confirm Selections and tick “Restart the destination server automatically if required” and click on “Deploy”.

Step 10. Then we come to “Completion” to view progress, and it will take us several minutes to wait for the deployment of all role services. Finally, click on close.

Step 11. Open the Server Manager as step 1, and then click on Overview. You can see the page on your computer in the following picture. The RD Gateway and RD licensing are missing.

Step 12. Click on the “add icon” of RD Gateway, and then select a server, click on Next.

Step 13. Name the SSL Certificate Name as you want such as gateway.it-worxx.nl

Step 14. Confirm selections in Confirmation and click on “Add”. Finally, Click on results and choose “Close”.

Step 15. Click on the “add icon” of RD Licensing, select a server and the domain controller, then choose the triangle button.

Step 16. Confirm selections and click on “Add”, view progress on Results, click on “Close” after the completion.

Step 17. Close the “Server Manage” and then restart it again as the step 1, click on Overview.

When you see your page is the same as the following picture, it means that you have already installed Connection Broker successfully.

Note: You can also configure the deployment according to your necessity. Then the issue "RDS There are no RD Connection broker servers in the server pool" would be fixed.

Step 3. On the host PC, click on "Allow" to receive the request control, then you can enjoy the remote session without any trouble.

Step 3. The connection is successfully established.
