“I do have the need to open the Computer Management console on a remote computer quite often and wonder if there is a quick way to allow me to do this that will help me to save my time.
-Question from Reddit”
Here in this part, we’ll introduce how to access MMC snap-ins on remote computer on Windows 10.
Step 1. Before starting, you need to find out the computer name of the remote computer. Right-click This PC on the remote desktop and then choose Properties.
Step 2. Note down the remote Device name, you’ll need it late.
Step 3. Search for the feature that you would like to access on a remote computer and then open it. Here we’ll take Event Viewer as an example if you need to view the Event Log of the remote computer.
Step 4. Right-click Event Viewer, and then choose Connect to Another Computer.
Step 5. Enter the name of the remote computer and then tick Connect as another user. After this, click Set User.
Step 6. Now you can provide the credential for a user that has access to the remote computer. Then click OK.
Step 7. Now you have already accessed the Event Viewer logs of the remote computer.
Step 1. Press Win + R, type in “mmc.exe”, and then press Enter to open Microsoft Management Console.
Step 2. Click File first and then choose Add/Remove Snap-in.
Step 3. Select the Snap-In for the feature that you want to manage on the remote device. For example, Computer Management, and then click Add.
Step 4. Enter the name of the remote computer, and then click Browse to check the computer name. After this, click Finish.
Step 5. Assuming you connect successfully, you can now use MMC snap-in remotely to that remote computer’s resources and settings as if you were physically sitting at that computer’s keyboard and monitor.
NOTE: For the above two methods, you need to assure that remote services are running, and the appropriate firewall access has been allowed for remote access to the tools you wish to use.
Here we would like to introduce another option for you to run MMC on remote computer, which is to access MMC snap-ins via remote desktop software on Windows 10, for example, using AnyViewer.
AnyViewer is free and easy remote desktop software. As long as both computers are logged in to the same account, you can easily achieve unattended remote access with one click. Once you get full control of the remote computer, you can access MMC snap-ins freely.
Step 1. Download, install, and launch AnyViewer on both computers.
Step 2. Go to Log in, and then click Sign up. (If you already have signed up on its official website, you can log in directly.)
Step 3. Fill in the signup information.
Step 4. Then you can see you successfully logged in to AnyViewer. Your device will automatically be assigned to the account you've logged in to.
Step 5. Log in to the same AnyViewer account on the two devices, then click One-click control to achieve unattended remote access.
Step 6. After you’ve got full control of the remote computer, you can then access MMC snap-ins as if you’re using it actually.
