“I have trouble in Azure how to connect to VM. According to what I’ve heard, using Remote Desktop Connection is the simplest way to log on to a virtual machine running Windows Operating System in Windows Azure. Can anyone tell me how do I connect to Azure VM using RDP?”
Follow the steps below to connect to Azure VM using RDP.
Step 1. Go to the Azure portal to connect to a VM.
Step 2. Search for and select Virtual machines.
Step 3. You will see the list of VM created in your Azure subscription. It will show the VM name, Type, Status, Resource group, etc. Click MyNewVM.
Step 4. Now you can able to see the details of your virtual machine like status, Public IP address, Computer name, etc.
Step 5. Click Connect and then select RDP from the options.
Step 6. Check the IP address and port number of your VM. If they’re correct, click Download RDP file.
Step 7. Open the downloaded RDP file. Click Connect.
Step 8. Enter your credentials to connect to the Azure VM.
Step 9. Click Yes. Now you should be able to connect to your VM.
Sometimes, you may encounter issues when using Remote Desktop Connection to connect to the virtual machine in Azure. For example, the following error message may prompt. But don’t worry, here we provide you with two methods to troubleshoot it.
Step 1. Go to the Overview tab. You can see the status is “Stopped”.
Step 2. Click Start on the top.
Step 3. Now you will see the status of the VM is changed to “Running”.
Step 1. Go to the Connect tab, click RDP, you will see the port that is being used for the RDP connection is 3389. You need to open this port on your virtual machine for an inbound connection.
Step 2. Go to the Networking tab, click Add inbound port rule.
Step 3. Fill in the rule as follow, then you should be able to successfully connect to your VM using RDP.
If you need to connect to virtual machines in Azure despite network restrictions, you can use third-party remote desktop software. As an example, consider AnyViewer. To better protect your privacy, you can also achieve remote control via AnyViewer without logging in to it. But we should note you that some features like file transfer and screen share can't be used if you are not logged in to AnyViewer.
Method 1. Send a control request
Step 1. Download, install, and open AnyViewer on both computers. Then you can see your device ID. Input the device ID of the other computer, then click Connect.
Step 2. There will be a pop-up window, click Send a control request to your partner.
Step 3. Then the host computer will receive a pop-up request. Click Allow to make the connection successful.
Method 2. Input security code
There are two types of security codes:
Step 1. On the host computer, go to Settings > Recipient. Tick the third option and then set the security code.
Step 2. On the client computer, input the device ID of the host computer and then click Connect. Then choose Input security code, enter the code and click OK.
