- Question from Quora

The development of technology today makes it possible to remotely access another computer without permission. Some people may worry that this will endanger their privacy and want to know how to block remote access to my computer on Windows 10/11. To set your mind at rest, you can remote access your computer so that no one can connect to your computer anymore.

How to block access to my computer on Windows 10, 11

Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance are the most frequently used remote access tools. Both of them are Windows built-in programs. To block remote access, we need to disable these two tools. Next, let’s see how to block access to my computer on Windows 10/11. The process is divided into two parts.

Part 1. Disable remote access to computer over Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance

Step 1. Double-click Control Panel on your desktop to open it. Find and click on System and Security.

Step 2. Under the System section, click the Allow remote access option.

Step 3. Switch to the Remote tab. Under the Remote Assistance section, clear the Allow Remote Assistance connection to this computer option and tick Don’t allow remote connections to this computer. Then click Apply and OK.

Once you complete these steps, the Windows Remote Desktop will stay disabled on your computer unless you manually enable it in the future.

Part 2. Don't allow Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance in Firewall

Step 1. Navigate here: Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Defender Firewall. Then click Allow an app through Windows Firewall.

Step 2. Click the Change settings button. Then clear the Remote Assistance and Remote Desktop option. Click the OK button.

How to block remote access via third-party remote desktop software

If you’re using a third-party remote desktop software instead of the Windows built-in Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance, you have one more step to go in order to block remote access to your computer. You’ll need to disable remote access from the third-party remote desktop software. Let’s take AnyViewer as an example.

AnyVieweris a safe remote access software developed by a strong technical team and is secured by Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) encryption, protecting your data from leakage during the remote session. If you’re worried about someone secretively accessing your computer without you knowing, you can follow the steps below to block access to your computer from AnyViewer when you don’t use it. You can enable these settings to receive remote access whenever you want.
